The Climate Network’s vision is to build a collaborative ecosystem of actors that will solve the climate crisis faster and more effectively. Our mission is to create local communities of climate professionals driving climate action in Africa. Building on the success of the Nairobi Climate Network, we are thrilled to announce the launch of the  Tanzania Climate Network to bring together an active community of climate professionals in Tanzania.

The Tanzania Climate Network is led by and consists of climate professionals who work and reside in Tanzania. It will provide a platform for its members to share knowledge, exchange resources, and participate in in-person events. Recognising Tanzania’s numerous climate action hubs, our community aims to extend its reach across the country. We plan to host events in various cities, including Dodoma and Arusha, fostering a nationwide network of climate action professionals. The Tanzania Climate Network already has 70 members and we look forward to welcoming many more over the coming months and years.

Tanzania is already a thriving hub for climate action and we are excited to serve and support this vibrant community. During the event, members discussed collaborations on nature, renewable energy, climate finance, affordable access to electric clean cooking, and sustainable agriculture. The networking event highlighted potential collaborations with the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation and emphasised the importance of involving finance and banking professionals to further scale climate impact. Additionally, members discussed the upcoming IETA workshop, scheduled for 3rd-5th September in Dar es-Salaam and the side event that the chapter is organising to engage with regional climate actors attending the conference.

“We’re excited to foster discussion and catalyse action and collaboration across climate sectors in Tanzania. Recent weather events have indicated clearly that there is no more time to loose, climate change  mitigation and adaptation is needed now and it is urgent. We want to play our part by bringing the key actors together.” Rehema Mbalamwezi, Co-founder Tanzania Climate Network.

The launch of the Tanzania chapter marks a significant step in the growth of The Climate Network in catalysing collaborative ecosystems of climate actors across the continent. Over the next months, we will be expanding into other cities in Africa. We are currently seeking expansion partners and local co-founders. If you are interested to discuss opportunities in your country, please write to Flavia at [email protected].

If you’re working in the climate sector and are based in Tanzania, you can apply to join the Network here. If you missed this event, the Tanzania Climate Network has exciting networking opportunities lined up for the rest of the year. Watch this space!

Thank you to all the members who attended and participated in this networking event, with a special thanks to Sally Hedley, the incoming Deputy High Commissioner to Tanzania, and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) for hosting the Tanzania Climate Network members. We look forward to more collaborations in the future.
