This November, the Earthshot Prize will be hosted in Africa for the first time. During this time, Common Purpose and The Earthshot Prize will bring together 100 remarkable young people aged 18-35 from across the continent who are eager to drive change in climate action and sustainability.
Over four engaging days, participants will develop essential skills in authentic leadership, storytelling, and networking, empowering them to effectively communicate their vision and build influential connections. This immersive experience will provide valuable learning opportunities and connect participants with the Earthshot Week activities, allowing them to join a community of young visionaries dedicated to forging a sustainable future.

AECF’s SME Window: Investing in Women in the Blue Economy in Kenya
AECF SMEs Window is seeking female entrepreneurs working in the Blue Economy in the Lake Victoria and Indian Ocean regions. This SME window will offer grant financing to women and young women-owned SMEs in all counties of Kenya, with implementation in the Lake Victoria and Indian Ocean regions.
The grant aims to:
- Improve financial inclusivity for women and young women-owned SMEs operating in Kenya’s Blue Economy sector by enhancing access to credit, facilitating market connections, providing inputs/products/services throughout the value chain, and generating employment
- Provide specialised enterprise development services and support for gender capacity and development to SMEs
- Promote and raise awareness of the business benefits of investing in women in Kenya’s Blue Economy
- Offer incentives to encourage widespread adoption of climate-smart practices in Kenya’s Blue Economy that are sustainable
Winners stand a chance to be awarded up to KSh 50,000,000.
DREEM (Distributed Renewable Energy Ecosystem Model) Fellowship Program
EED Advisory Limited and the CS Mott Foundation are now accepting applications for the DREEM (Distributed Renewable Energy Ecosystem Model) Fellowship Program for the 2024-25 cohort. This fellowship program aims to develop local talent in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda to help address the imbalance in capital flows to non-profit actors in the energy access sector and is ideal for recent university graduates.
Features of the Fellowship Program include:
- Applied Training: Responsive training on the architecture of climate finance, emerging trends, and opportunities for climate action in East Africa.
- Targeted placement: 6-month secondment to work in and support efforts of a non-profit entity in Kenya, Uganda, or Tanzania.
- Continuous Networking: Interact with industry leaders, thought leaders, grant makers and peers through conferences, shared projects, and other platforms.

This role will focus on structured lead generation, pipeline management, direct sales conversations, and coaching the corporate sales team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in agricultural sales, a proven track record of meeting sales targets, and the ability to build strong relationships with large farms, corporate farms, partners, and government entities.

d.light is seeking an experienced Carbon Program Manager to lead their carbon credit sales and carbon business development initiatives, build and maintain strong relationships with various external stakeholders, as well as to support the implementation and day-to-day management of both new and existing carbon projects. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of carbon markets, strong analytical abilities, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Rebekah Shirley, Deputy Director of WRI Africa and a guest editor at the Environmental Research: Infrastructure and Sustainability (ERIS) journal, invites you to submit your articles and research on “Cities and Local Action for Urban Resilience” to the journal.
This focus issue creates a platform for sharing experiences, innovations, successes, and challenges in local climate action at the city level. Recent milestones have elevated the role of cities in climate action. For example, the launch of the “Local Climate Action Summit” at COP28 in Dubai assembled more than 500 mayors, governors, and other subnational leaders for the first time at a COP. This is an opportune time to publish and amplify your research.
