Forecasting Green Jobs in Africa
Shortlist, in collaboration with FSD Africa and Boston Consulting Group have released a joint report that forecasts 1.5 to 3.3M new green jobs by 2030 in 12 main value chains. Solar and Climate Smart Agriculture present the highest job opportunities, followed by aquaculture and poultry, and waste remediation and recycling:
- Solar (57%) is universally accessible with shortest deployment time (for energy generation)
- Climate Smart Agriculture (12%) adoption expected to increase with big efforts towards modernisation and increased productivity, further enhanced by companies innovating to bring product costs down
- Waste remediation and recycling (6%) jobs expected to increase with increased urbanisation, development and overall population
- Aquaculture and poultry jobs (6%) increase from rising consumption as a result of population growth and rising incomes (i.e., growing per capita consumption)
