The Nairobi Climate Network has launched the report “Perspectives from Africa’s Climate Leaders”. This groundbreaking report aims to amplify the voices of climate leaders across the African continent, presenting their viewpoints and insights as a crucial contribution to the upcoming Africa Climate Summit (ACS).
The report delves into the forefront of innovation and progress within the climate sector, showcasing the opportunities that ignite passion among leaders. It addresses the challenges that these leaders encounter on their journeys and boldly articulates the imperatives they place before policymakers and their peers.
Regardless of the sector they represent, Climate Leaders express interest in and see opportunities across a range of climate innovations and emerging solutions. The report identifies nine different clusters of innovations with application across multiple industries. Meanwhile the biggest challenge faced by 59% of leaders is funding & finance, followed by the policy and regulatory environment at 23%. To address these challenges and meet the opportunities, 36% of Climate Leaders are asking policymakers for tax and fiscal incentives to support their growth, whilst 33% want to see clear and transparent policies, regulations and standards – particularly in those in carbon markets.
Set against the backdrop of the impending Africa Climate Summit, this report plays an essential role in unifying the climate action community across the continent. This report finds that leaders see the Africa Climate Summit as an opportunity to network (57%) and build their understanding (32%) on climate issues and solutions. By consolidating diverse perspectives and priorities, this report forms a collective stance, ensuring that Africa’s climate leaders have a resounding voice in shaping the conversations and outcomes of ACS.
